How can you make a difference by standing up for democracy?
For the first time since 2004, the Bertelsmann Transformation Index (BTI) has recorded more autocratic states than democracies around the world. Less than 6.4 % of the world’s population enjoy full democracy.
A democracy relies on the participation of citizens. Not only by voting, but also by involvement in their community. A democracy needs to be cultivated. How can you, as a citizen, do your part in strengthening democracy in your community, city or country?

The implementation of the initiative “Building bridges between Latvian and Norwegian democracy festivals and municipalities” of EUR 56 200 is supported under the bilateral cooperation fund for the European Economic Area and also Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
The aim of the project is to promote closer cooperation between Latvia and Norway, peer-to-peer learning among Conversation festival LAMPA and Arendalsuka, municipalities of Cesis and Arendal and to expand and deepen understanding in Latvia and Norway about current issues at European, national, municipal and festivals’ levels.
