Less than two months are left until the fourth annual conversation festival LAMPA. A LAMPA warm-up event will take place on May 26th, in the courtyard of an apartment complex in Riga, Ziepniekkalns neighbourhood, at Ozolciema iela 22 k-2. We will warm up with conversations and discussions, ‘’seeding’’ trust, games, workshops for kids, Repair Cafe, and a stand-up comedy show starring Rudolfs Kugrēns. Everyone is invited to join us in this all day event, starting at noon. Participation is free.
We will start the day in a family-friendly way. At 12:00, we will have a conversation with the alumni of the “Iespējamā misija” education programme, who will share their experiences about how teachers view parental involvement in the education process, and how cooperation with parents transpires at the day-to-day level. The audience will receive practical tips, on how to instil in kids a passion for life-long learning.
At 13:35 Русское вещание LTV7 will lead a discussion on a hot topic: “Who, if not them? Are there other answers to the Russian question?” This discussion will take place in Russian, with simultaneous translation to Latvian provided. And especially for the residents of Ziepniekkalns – a discussion on the quality of life in Ziepniekkalns at 15:30. Everyone will have the opportunity to ask questions about the fascinating history of the area, today’s challenges and future possibilities. Discussions will encompass a look at other Riga neighbourhoods. Urban planner Jānis Ķināsts will lead the discussion.
Trust is the highlighted value at this year’s festival LAMPA, so we will shine an especially bright light on trust in Ziepniekkalns. The Foundation for an Open Society DOTS will close out the discussion programme of the day at 17:15 with a light-hearted, thought-provoking discussion about what is trust, why it is important, and what we can do to safeguard and replenish trust in society. LAMPA Festival director Ieva Morica will lead the conversation with Rūta Dimanta, founder and director of the charity website ziedot.lv and the rehabilitation centre POGA, Aidis Tomsons, journalist at Latvijas Radio, and Uldis Biķis, Chairman of the Board, ‘’Latvijas Finieris”. We will be seeding trust all day – planting seeds in pots for each participant to take home and nurture.
The grand finale of the day will be at 19:00 - a stand-up comedy show ‘’Prieks (Happiness)”, starring one of Latvia’s hottest comedians Rūdolfs Kugrēns.
We will even keep the kids entertained. All-day bubbles, board games from Brain Games, and even a rocket making workshop and experiment show. In the evening – animated films from Atom Art.
Our Repair Cafe will operate all day long – where you can bring in your broken stuff, and learn from seasoned experts how to fix it yourself.
The conversation festival LAMPA creates an environment and an impulse for self-improvement in this forever-changing world. The festival events impress and engage – two inspiring days, to sharpen your mind, broaden your horizons and challenge your preconceptions. It is a thrilling platform for everyone, who has something to say. Everyone, who would like to learn and talk about issues important to Latvia, to Europe and to the world. This year – the festival LAMPA takes place in the Cēsis castle park June 29 – 30. More about the festival: www.festivalslampa.lv .
