Researcher, Ph.D. candidate, Mg.nat.sci Vaira Obuka of the University of Latvia, Faculty of Geography and Earth, has participated as a project coordinator and manager in local and international projects, for example, Interreg Central Baltic, Interreg Baltic Sea region, Swedish Institute. The researcher has participated in the State Research Programs in Latvia in different projects. Major field of study: an investigation of new uses of various materials with the main goal to look for possibilities of wider use of natural materials, industrial by-products, and renewable local resources. Such resources and by-products as sapropel, biochar, sawdust, hemp shives, wood fibers, etc. have been combined in new composite materials until now. Studies of composite materials for horticulture application (plantable pots 'AUGAM', growing media - soil granules) have been studied. As well as I work at the University of Latvia Communication and Innovation department in the technology transfer group as an expert, where the main goal is to create a bridge between industry and science.
